Alcatel OneTouch Idol 4 to Feature Snapdragon 652 SoC, Reveals GFXBench Listing

Idol 3

Alcatel is working on a successor to the OneTouch Idol 3 smartphone that it announced earlier this year in March. The company will most likely debut the new model early next year but the specs of the device have been leaked quite early thanks to a GFXBench listing.

The listing refers to the device as the “TCL 6070” and reveals that the smartphone will not be very different from its predecessor as far as the display goes. The OneTouch Idol 4 will also sport a 5.5” sized display as the OneTouch Idol 3 with the exact same 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution. That translates to a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch, which is pretty impressive for a mid-range device.

Perhaps the biggest USP of the mid-range smartphone will be the chipset under its hood. Alcatel has decided to equip the smartphone with the new Snapdragon 652 octa-core SoC, which is basically just a renamed Snapdragon 620 SoC. The first smartphone powered by the chipset has already gone official, the Samsung Galaxy A9. Being based on the ARM Cortex-A72 architecture, the Snapdragon 652 is quite a beast in terms of performance and actually manages to perform similarly to the flagship Snapdragon 810 SoC in some benchmarks. It also comes with the new Adreno 510 GPU with very impressive graphics performance. In fact, in the GFXBench listing, the smartphone managed to score higher than quite a few Snapdragon 810 powered smartphones such as the HTC One M9, LG G Flex 2 and the Sony Xperia Z3+ in the Car Chase offline test.

GFXBench 2

Moving on to other specs, the device is likely to be equipped with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. We suspect the smartphone will offer a microSD card slot for memory expansion, but we will need to wait for the device to go official to be completely sure. On the imaging front, the smartphone will offer a 16 megapixel shooter at the back and an 8 megapixel unit on the front for taking selfies. The prototype listed on GFXBench ran on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow version, so it is all but confirmed that the final model will boot Android Marshmallow out of the box when it goes on sale.

  • I doubt i will buy it. My Idol 3 sits in a drawer waiting for an update to fix it’s wakelock bugs since September. Whatever Android version it ships with is likely all you get with TCL.

  • I saw on a website that the phone will have a 66.8% screen ratio,is that true?

    • Its the only reason im considiring not to buy it(too huge bezels)

  • I love my Idol 3. Best smartphone ever for the money!
