Xiaomi Mi Mix was the Revolution of the last year, and Maze Alpha is the alternative for its sequel’s this year’s Mi Mix 2. Xiaomi was the first company to bring Bezeless Smartphone to the market. Then the trend resumed from LG, Samsung, and now also by Apple, and an array other smaller producers. Among the latter Maze which launched recently the new bezelless smartphone known Maze Alpha,
A kind of economic Mi Mix 2 that it costs only $200! Maze Alpha is a new borderless smartphone. A great screen of 6-inch with full HD resolution. The panel is bright and contrasted, But a flaw in saturation: In fact, the colors are always a bit too dull and a flaw in saturated colors.
The viewing angle is still great and then, as mentioned, is borderless: the only frame (actually rather important) is on the bottom of the phone, But for the rest of the frames are very small. But unlike the Mi Mix 2, Maze Alpha still managed to include an earpiece at the top of the smartphone, which will feel pretty good as long as perfectly position the ear. The screen is then covered by a Gorilla Glass 4 that ensures a good resistance to scratches and falls.
Inside in the Maze Alpha, we find MediaTek Helio P25 processor, Certainly not as good as Qualcomm Snapdragon processors but still, manages to smoothly move Maze Alpha a bit ‘in all contexts of use.
In everyday life the phone is always responsive and does not hardly ever heat, while during the execution of the heaviest games it is possible to note a few shots and a slight heating of the back cover, but nothing that hot.
As for the RAM, the phone is sold in two versions: one with 4 GB of RAM and one with 6 GB of RAM.
On average, the connectivity of the phone: the only positive note is the dual-band WiFi, while Bluetooth is stopped to version 4.1. There is, however, a USB-C connector for charging (if also desired rapid) but lacks the NFC.
Not convinced even the fingerprint sensor, positioned in front of the phone but very unreliable and slow. Not among the worst tested, but still insufficient. The microphone of the Maze Alpha is good. Also the earpiece, Despite being small.
Disappointing, however, is the ‘sound‘ of Speaker and flat EQ and volume are not very high. As always. Audio is one of those fields where producers like Maze never manage to convince.
Onboard of Maze Alpha’s is Android 7.0 Nougat version which is pretty much stock. Maze is proud to have a stock software, free from unnecessary applications and services, but it is said that this is an advantage for everyone.
Personally, I was expecting the inner personality from this smartphone (which outwardly has plenty), Though enough to customize it with Nova Launcher instantly. Overall, however, the software experience is smooth and free of slowdowns and blockages.
The only additional feature worth mentioning is a handy (and indispensable) one-handed mode that is activated with a horizontal sliding on the navigation bar, just like on and Huawei Honor smartphones.
Maze Alpha includes a dual camera at the back with 13 megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors. The features related to the dual sensor are few and questionable: the first concerns a blurred effect (completely unusable) while the second involves shooting in white and black. Given the results, I would say that there was no need for a second camera as it almost seems fake. The shots, in general, do not have surprised me and videos are definitely below expectations.
Selfies acquirable with the 5-megapixel camera, not defined, and with a completely busted color balance. Oh, and the front camera is in the lower part of the device, just like on Mi Mix. So to have decent shots you have to rotate the smartphone.
On Maze Alpha, we find a 4,000 mAh battery, which guarantees a good autonomy. However, I would have expected a little bit more given the size of the battery. With a standard usage, you can be still able to arrive without problems at the end of the day, while a softer use can also lead you to the two days of use. Again, absolutely not bad, but given the size and the thickness (large, 8.1 mm) could have probably done more. But there are two aspects of use and certain power saving modes that improve a little ‘things.
If you are interested, you can get Maze Alpha at a price of about $ 200. At this price, it’s really hard to say no to this phone if you are looking for a borderless device and good performance. However, you must be willing to accept the limits and to overlook some flaws, but overall smartphone deserves a look at it!
