Three New BlackBerry Smartphones In the Works – ‘Neon’, ‘Argon’ & ‘Mercury’

BlackBerry Mercury

An exclusive new report published by Venture Beat has shed light on three upcoming Android smartphones from BlackBerry, which will most likely be manufactured for the Canadian smartphone company by Chinese smartphone manufacturer TCL. The devices are codenamed Neon, Argon, and Mercury.

The earlier to arrive will be the ‘Neon’. It is expected to go on sale in the July to August timeframe and will be a mid-range offering aimed at both the consumer as well as enterprise markets. The device will feature a 5.2-inch display with 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution and is going to be a full touch handset with no physical keyboard. In terms of build, the ‘Neon’ will boast of a solid aluminum frame and a back made out of soft-coated plastic. Powering it will be the Snapdragon 617 octa-core chipset, paired with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Like most other affordable mid-range Android smartphones out there, the ‘Neon’ too will be equipped with a 13MP primary camera at the back and an 8MP selfie camera on the front. It will also include a 2610mAh capacity battery, with support for the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 standard.

Next up is the ‘Argon’. This one will be quite an impressive device in terms of specs and is expected to debut in the market sometime in October this year. It reportedly packs a 5.5-inch Quad HD resolution display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, 21MP rear camera, 8MP selfie camera, 3000mAh capacity battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support, fingerprint sensor, and a USB Type-C port. However, unlike the Priv, ‘Argon’ is going to be a full touchscreen handset.

The third handset, codenamed ‘Mercury’, is expected to arrive only in the first quarter of 2017. Unlike the two other devices, the ‘Mercury’ is going to feature a physical QWERTY keyboard on the front, similar to the one on the BlackBerry Passport. It is tipped to feature a 4.5-inch 1080p display with a 3:2 aspect ratio, full aluminum body, Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, 18MP rear camera, 8MP front-facing camera, and a 3400mAh capacity battery.
